Karate, specifically Shotokan style, is a traditional Japanese martial art which emphasizes strong linear movements and impactful strikes. It was created by Gichin Funakoshi in the early 20th century and has since then become one of the most widely practiced karate styles worldwide. At Hinode Karate Club, Sensei Adriana teaches high-quality Shotokan karate classes for children and adults who are interested in physically and mentally developing themselves through martial arts training. Sensei Adriana offers personalized attention and expert guidance to assist each student in reaching their full potential.

Our Story

At Hinode Karate Tienen, we are passionate about providing the best karate training in the region. Founded by Sensei Adriana, our club has been offering high quality karate classes since the beginning. Our mission is to help students, from the age of 5, with different levels of experience, to develop their physical and mental skills through martial arts training provided in a safe and supportive environment.

Sensei Adriana has dedicated her life to teaching Shotokan karate and inspiring her students to reach their full potential. With her expert guidance and personalized attention, students can improve their strength, flexibility, discipline, and focus, while at the same time, learning valuable self-defense skills.

Meet Sensei Adriana

Owner and instructor at Hinode

I am excited to share with you my journey in the world of martial arts, specifically in Karate (Shotokan style).

At the age of seven, my father introduced me and my sister to karate through a guidebook and martial arts movies. Despite my initial reluctance, my passion for karate grew as I trained under Sensei Florin Ionita at the Sakura karate club in my hometown Onesti, Romania.

In 2001, I won first place in kata at the World Cup FRK WKF, which solidified my decision to continue training. However, after Sensei Ionita left the country, I stopped practicing karate.

It wasn’t until 2009, when he returned and encouraged me to return to the tatami, that I resumed training. I earned my black belt, began coaching, and pursued studies in physical education and sport at the University of Bacau.

Throughout my career, I have achieved many significant results, including a first-place finish and third-place finish in kata at the WUKF World Championship in 2013. As a coach, I am proud of my students’ achievements, including a second-place finish at the WUKF World Championship.

After moving to Belgium, I encountered differences in the sports world but decided to follow my passion and resume practicing karate in 2022. As the owner and instructor at Hinode Karate Shotokan Tienen, I am dedicated to helping young students become skilled karateka in a safe and fun environment.
